Harnessing Reprogrammable Phase Transitions to Control the Propagation of Sound Waves

Acoustic metamaterials hold great potential for applications in the sensing and control of sound waves. These materials rely on their geometry, not composition, functionality, but geometric configurations are usually fixed when they fabricated, limiting potential. In this study, researchers exploit reversibility, reprogrammability, inherently nondestructive nature nonlinear magnetic lattices to engineer propagation waves through two distinct (phases) a metamaterial. Harnessing unique wave-control properties each phase yields robust wave filter ultralow-frequency that is $t\phantom{\rule{0}{0ex}}u\phantom{\rule{0}{0ex}}n\phantom{\rule{0}{0ex}}a\phantom{\rule{0}{0ex}}b\phantom{\rule{0}{0ex}}l\phantom{\rule{0}{0ex}}e$ real time.
